Battlefield 3 Announced; Coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

Battlefield 3 coming in Fall 2011 to a PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 near you

DICE and Electronic Arts just gave a big boost to this weekends’ LAN parties: development team officially announced Battlefield 3, revealing only that the title will hit the shelves in Fall 2011.

Powered by new Frostbite 2 game engine, DICE plans to play on all the strengths of original Frostbite engine, bringing not just a single-player campaign and up to 64-player multiplayer – but enabling co-op campaign as well.
One of most popular aspects of its predecessor, Battlefield: Bad Company 2 was Destruction 2.0 engine and the developer isn’t stopping at that: new game will pay even more attention to ripping the game map to pieces, keeping up the physics which means you can die if the tree falls on you? and how the tree might fall on you, you might ask – simply by getting shredded to bits by an almighty arsenal.

Do note that 64-player multiplayer maps are reserved for PC alone, while owners of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will have to make with significantly less players [16, 24, 32], which is still a great figure, given the hardware constraints of the consoles.

As it usually goes, this preview was followed with a preorder possibility; this time around, only Battlefield 3 Limited Edition is available for digital download, while the contents of Limited Edition will become public in late February at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
