Sharp Launches No More "Japan-Only" 3D HD Superphone

If you thought that an 8Mpixel iPhone 5 or Sensation or Galaxy S II are something special, think again. In collaboration with the Japanese telco carrier SoftBank, Sharp is launching a 12.1MP, 4.5" smartphone featuring an glassless 3D HD touchscreen display.

Sharp Aquos 102SHSharp Aquos 102SH carries a dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 processor ticking at 1GHz, 1GB of DDR2-LP memory, microSD slot (4GB card bundled, up to 32GB). The OMAP 4430 powers the 4.5"multi-touch display which features a 1280×720 resolution – yes, a 16:9 ratio. The display also features Sharp’s autostereoscopic 3D technology which can be found on Nintendo 3DS mobile console as well, albeit in a much lower resolution. Naturally, the phone runs on Google Android 2.3.

Communication features include GPS and GSM connectivity i.e. HSDPA/HSPA+ (up to 21Mbps), 802.11n (144 Mbps), Bluetooth 3.0 (up to 24Mbps).

Now, the interesting news is that this phone is not intended to be sold in Japan only. Unlike the previous phones, where we could only list the specs and tell you could buy them in Japan, Sharp is now changing its balance. The company was one of rare "Japan-only" mobile phone manufacturers, but that is now changing with the launch of products in the developed European markets.

First product available in UK etc. will be a lower dual 8MPixel 3D cameraphone with Android 2.3.
