Monday at CES 2012, Huawei showed what they call the world?s slimmest smartphone Thin is in this year at CES with several vendors shrinking the width of their products.
Huawei ‘s Ascend P1 S is 6.68 millimeters thick, with a TI OMAP 4460 Cortex A-9, dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, and a 4.3-inch AMOLED 960 by 540 touchscreen with Corning?s Gorilla Glass. It has 1GB of RAM and 4GB of ROM.
Huawei Chairman Richard Yu said the new device will debut in Europe at the end of March, and in the US before summer, for a price that would probably be around $400. He said it would take a major marketing effort to convince consumers that Huawei products are on par with existing luxury models, but he expected the phone’s performance to speak for itself. BSN* asked David Mei, a Huawei product manager, which mobile carrier would offer the Ascend P1 S. Mei said those plans were not finalized as of the announcement.

The Ascend P1 S supports total global roaming with UMTS/HSPA five mobile bands (Pentaband) ?850/900/1700/1900/2100Mhz. This opens the doors to the four major North American carriers; Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, and T-mobile, as well as regional carriers like MetroPCS.
The Ascend P1, part of the same family of smartphones, is slightly thicker at 7.69mm. Both of the smartphones come with 1GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel camera with AF (auto-focus) 1080p HD, and a 1.3-megapixel HD front facing camera, 720p HD video capture, as well as support for USB 3.0. They come with WiFi and Bluetooth along with a UI that incorporates social media capabilities. Huawei?s P1S has a 1670mAh battery, while the slightly thicker P1 has an 1800mAh battery.
Huawei is starting off with Android Version 4.0 ICS (ice cream sandwich) operating system and that moves them right into the big leagues of smartphones. This is another feature that should appeal to buyers.
Clearly Huawei has their work cut out for them in marketing this high-end smartphone when most of the world has only seen inexpensive features phones from them.
