Microsoft Xbox Infinity Killer Feature: IllumiRoom?

There is a rumor going around that as a part of Xbox’s new console, the Xbox Infinity, Microsoft will introduce a new concept called IllumiRoom which is designed to make the gaming experience more immersive.

This is based on a Microsoft research project that combines the use of a kinect motion sensing camera with a small inexpensive projector. By combining those two devices with an Xbox, gamers would be able to enable a significantly more immersive gaming scenario where they could project their surrounding environment around them and their TV so that the majority of the high density action occurs on the TV screen, while all of the immersion occurs in the room around them.

Check out the video below to get an idea of what’ll be possible if this gets implemented with the new Xbox.

As you can see, this is a really impressive concept and would without a doubt require a pretty significant hardware commitment on top of already needing the latest generation Xbox and TV. The addition of a Kinect isn’t too bad of a problem as many people already have kinects and the only expensive part of the solution would be the projector. The on good thing about this is that the projector doesn’t necessarily have to be a high resolution 1080P project which would cost a lot of money. It could be relatively low resolution and still have a similar effect considering the simplicity of the actual affect it creates.

Overall, this is a really innovative concept and we really hope it makes it into the next Xbox, if anything just to have it as a cool feature.
