Robot Entertainment has entered a partnership with Tencent Games to bring us their new Tower Defense Online Battle Arena game Orcs Must Die! Unchained. This new addition to the highly awarded Orcs Must Die! franchise brings the game to China as one of the selected publishing targets. Robot Entertainment will publish Orcs Must Die! Unchained in North America while GameForge will take care of Europe.
Inclusion of China as one of the targetted playerbase nations could potentially take a nice bite out of the ever expanding Chinese online player pool. Estimated number of Chinese players is 245 and predictions are that profits from this growing playerbase might double in a few years. Robot Entertainment’s partnership with Tencent Games, one of major players in China’s games industry will be a great deal for both companies and the Chinese online game players.
Orcs Must Die! Unchained is a third person game that combines elements from both Tower Defense and Multiplayer Online Battle Arena to create a fast paced online action gameplay experience. Unlike in previous games of Orcs Must Die franchise teams of players will have to both attack enemy strongholds and defend their own. Cunning use of sneaky traps in their own territory and summoning of attacking forces to pillage the enemy will be the key to achieving victory.
As usual with China ports the localized version of the game will include some Chinese fanservice like the famous female hero Mulan, Terracota Warrior and traps based on the Great Wall of China. There are plans to include more of the Chinese themed content as the game matures during time.
Currently in closed Beta in North America and Europe, Orcs Must Die! Unchained supports 10 players locked in 5 vs 5 multiplayer. Players are constantly testing tons of new heroes, weapons, traps and trying out new strategies. Orcs Must Die! Unchained is expected to arrive as a free digital download for PC in 2015. As usual in these games constant additions to the roster and gear options could keep collector, math-cruncher and strategy builders hooked for quite a while.
