The tablet market is on the decline, and Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) is likely now feeling a tad bit jittery about the prospects of sitting on a heap of unsold Surface inventory.
While the Surface Pro 3 is definitely the best of the otherwise money-losing tablet line, Microsoft looks to be wanting to clear them out. As of today until February 7, Microsoft is offering a $100 discount on Surface Pro 3 models starting with the Core i5. Microsoft is also throwing in a free sleeve with any Surface Pro 3, including the base model, through April 5.
The lowest end Core i5 has a 4300U CPU and a 128 GB SSD. Next up comes the model with the same CPU and a 256 GB SSD for $1,199 then the $1,499 edition with a Core i7 4650U / 256GB and finally the $1,849 Core i7 4650U / 512GB.
The Surface Pro 3 has a 12-inch multi-touch display with a 2160×1440 resolution (unfortunately not QHD), a 1080p front-facing camera, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, front and rear microphones and USB 3.0. All editions ship with Windows 8.1 Pro.
