Unlike its predecessors, Windows 10 Mobile shares a lot with the Windows 10 PC systems, potentially giving the mobile users a perfect solution for their mobile demands. Microsoft’s Windows 10 Mobile is the latest attempt to take on smartphone OS leaders Apple (iOS) and Google (Android). After months of announcements and discussion going, Microsoft finally released the OS upgrade for select Windows Phone 8.1 devices.
“Consistent with our approach to the Windows 10 PC upgrade, we are focused on delivering a high quality experience for our customers,” said Michael Fortin (Corporate VP, Core Quality, Windows and Devices Group). “The Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor app can be downloaded from the Windows Store to see if the upgrade is available for your device.” – he added in a press release by the company earlier. This means that all Windows Phone users should check if their device falls on the list. This is quite unlike the desktop systems, where the Windows 10 Update looks to be forced upon users.
“As Windows 10 delivers significant new innovations, many older devices are not able to successfully upgrade without an impact on the customer experience,” Fortin explained. “Our goal is to only offer the Windows 10 upgrade to devices that we are confident can continue to deliver a good customer experience.”
The list of devices able to upgrade to the new OS is as follows (here’s a hint: they’re all Lumias):
Lumia 430/435, Lumia 532/535/540, Lumia 635/636/638, Lumia 830, Lumia 640, Lumia 640XL, Lumia 730/735, Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520. If you found your device on the list and want to upgrade, download the Windows 10 Upgrade Advisor app from the Windows Store to begin the upgrade process.
