Looks like Sony is feeling pretty bold. At the upcoming Paris Games Week event, Sony will be unveiling 7 new games for the PS4, and at least a few of them are very likely to be PSVR titles. Proudly boasting in their blog post that “E3 was just the beginning”, Sony announces a livestream starting at 8 AM Pacific Time where they’ll provide updates on 21 games and announce seven new titles for PS4 and PSVR. Starting from 9 AM Pacific Time, they will cover these titles in detail with trailers and in-depth looks at each of them.
If you aren’t in Paris, don’t worry: there will be plenty of places for you to watch these announcements, including Sony’s very own live stream page. You’ll likely see plenty of mirrors trending over on Twitch.tv as well.
Since the release of the PSVR, Sony has become one of the biggest names in the industry. This is thanks to their pre-existing install base with their PlayStation consoles, as well as their focus on making PSVR a more affordable alternative entry into VR than either the Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive. While paying out for a PSVR headset will still cost you, those who already own a PS4 are only looking at spending a couple hundred as opposed to the literal thousands a full Vive/Rift setup can cost you. The PSVR being tied to such a major game publisher has also allowed a number of AAA-quality games to come to it- even though they can’t take advantage of PC’s devastating brute force, there’s a lot more focus on graphical fidelity with PSVR games. While many Vive and Oculus titles push this barrier as well, most titles for these headsets are indie games focused on new gameplay experiences, not so much hyper-fidelity.
Because of the PSVR’s success so far, Sony clearly doesn’t view the headset as an afterthought. For this reason, it’s important to take note when Sony says they have big VR announcements in store.
