FAIL: Are HP computers racist?

image_804_6190

We have received an interesting YouTube video that might be the capital software fail of 2009. In this two minute video, you’re introduced to Desi Cryer [his name is visible on the name tag], "black" guy [he calls himself black, Ed.] who purchased an HP laptop for Christmas – intended for his wife. However, his plan of surprising his wife for Christmas with the newest HP laptop went astray due to a "Face tracking" software glitch. In theory, Face Tracking software should detect a person that is using a bundled web camera to track a face on a screen as the person moves. This is

Can Twitter, Facebook do the impossible and save one life?

image_742_6128

Almost every day, your inbox might receive an e-mail asking for support in a case of a terribly sick patient who only has months or weeks to live. In a lot of cases, the stories are actually brought forward to steal funds and we learn to discard them, regardless of the case being real of not. In the case of young Silvana Novak from Croatia, she could only wish that a circular e-mail, large amount of tweets or Facebook messages were fake and that she was okay. Unfortunately, this is not to be. Silvana learned a terrible diagnosis- acute myelodysplastic leukemia in the final stage.

Today is a good day for making Internet history. Well done Finland!

image_650_6036

What might seem as an odhat made broadband something you’ll never have to worry about for the rest of your life. According to the daily press in Helsinki, the Finnish government just introduced laws in which every person living in Finland has a legitimate right to broadband access. This makes Finland the second country in the world that placed the right to Internet access in its constitution, but unlike Estonia [pronounced Internet access as constitutional right on April 7, 2004]- Finland warrants a right to broadband access. Starting from July 2010, every person in living in Finland will have the right to at least 1Mbps

image_589_5975

Remember Kylie from the earlier series of Microsoft’s "I am a PC" ads? After a laptop hunter series that lasted less than the originally planned 14 ads, Microsoft is going back to its roots and relaunching a campaign featuring "I am a PC" people. This time around, the marketing campaign’s name is "Good News". Kylie tells us she’s found happy words – lots of them. The interesting marketing ploy in all of this is the fact that "happy words" are nothing else but positive reviews of Windows 7 operating system coming from different web pages. Kylie than takes all the happy words about Windows 7 and

image_586_5972

Today Facebook launched a new feature; tagging friends in status updates and other messages from the publisher. To tag someone you need to use the "@" symbol followed by friend’s name, name of the page or group. The message will show only the link to friends profile or link to Facebook group. Facebook popularized tagging of friends in photos years ago. But now it took a step further, quoting: "One small step for the Facebook but huge for mankind", or at least for all the people who are using it. French police and military intelligence shut down a torrent site. Or not…

image_325_5711

In cooperation with the military intelligence, French police shot down Snowtigers – the biggest French Bit-Torrent tracker that counted about 250.000 users. From the reports, police arrested 10 "staff" members and confiscated more than 20 servers. All this wouldn’t be possible if the French Army hasn’t participated and located the operators. While French justice is maybe satisfied for arresting the tracker owners and confiscating most of the servers, but all of this was in vain. Why? The reason is quite simple – the French maybe made a nice PR stunt for the official TF1 channel, but the Snowtigers tracker isn’t off-line. The French part was

Is MS Office Going Free, Online, and Ad-supported Next Year?

image_315_5701

Regardless of what the general public’s opinion is, the world of online media isn’t free of pulling stories. If true, the story of ad-supported Office 2010 was just too big to handle for Michael Arrington’s TechCrunch site. TechCrunch ran a story about Microsoft Office 2010 Online version going free and completely supported by ads. This would be a very radical departure from the previous years, given the fact that Microsoft Office suite is one of key financial pilars in the Microsoft world. Then again, the numerous hundreds of millions of users that use the Office suite is a huge bait for any advertiser. Imagine what

FAIL: LC SNPC is the reason why Microsoft will always lose to Apple

image_310_5696

Laptop Hunters was a good start, but Microsoft decided to screw everything up: We all call small notebooks – netbooks. Well, MSFT thinks that’s not a good idea. Microsoft is suggesting that netbook manufacturers use the name "Low Cost Small Notebook PC". WTF? Steven Guggenheimer during Computex explained that computers of today are capable of far advanced tasks than just plain Internet surfing, so the name “netbook” is underestimating their true possibilities – limited by the Red Giant from Redmond, of course. Windows 7 Starter will be delivered on laptops with limited hardware such as those with a 10 inch display, 1GB RAM, 250GB hard
