Even though HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) standard only launched last June in the form of AMD’s Fiji GPU, that memory was considered a ‘trial run’ for HBM2 – a memory standard which is here to stay. Launching in mid-2016 with AMD Polaris and NVIDIA Pascal, HBM2 memory standard will redefine computing as we know it. Intel recently submitted an SEC SC-13G ‘Statement of Beneficial Ownership’ in Adesto Technologies Corporation, making their 5.1% investment in Adesto public. As Intel focuses the investment and product portfolio on Internet of Things (IoT), the company is actively teaming up and investing in companies which hold significant stake in desired markets. Adesto endured a troubled IPO, first by being forced to reduce the valuation of the company, and then shares sunk by 25%, reducing the market cap to $86.08 million. For the last couple of months, enthusiasts ‘on a budget’ were buying Intel processors based on latest ‘Skylake’ architecture and overclocked them to obtain extra performance. What made overclocking especially attractive was the possibility to overclock cheaper, ‘non-K’ processors using the old method of raising the base-clock (BCLK). Given that the company faced ‘Skylake crashes in Prime95’ affair, Intel decided to push microcode updates which would not just prevent Skylake-based CPUs from crashing but to prevent all non-K CPUs from overclocking as well. As we mentioned in our previous stories, Intel plans to debut the high-end, 14nm Broadwell-E processors for desktops, workstations and servers, replacing the 22nm Haswell-E. When it comes to the desktop side of things, the company traditionally offered two different core and several clock configurations – but that is about to change. At Intel Corporation’s annual investor meeting held on Friday, the company announced that its board of directors has approved an increase in its cash dividend to $1.04 per-share on an annual basis, an eight-cent increase, beginning with the dividend that will be declared in the first quarter of 2016. Couple of days ago, GlobalFoundries issued a press release stating that they ‘demonstrated silicon success on the first AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) products using GLOBALFOUNDRIES’ most advanced 14nm FinFET process technology.’ “FinFET technology is expected to play a critical foundational role across multiple AMD product lines, starting in 2016.
