Samsung’s New Strategy: VR First

Over the past decade, we’ve heard ‘Mobile First’ mentioned by all major CEOs, with companies shifting their focus to ‘Mobile First’, a strategy where development of solutions for mobile devices takes precedence over everything else. Mobile First saw the rise of ‘client lite’ computing, but not in a way IBM and Oracle have hoped, with the major benefactor being Intel – its x86 servers powered almost every cat video you saw on your favorite social network. The dawn of mixed reality will require completely different focus. While delivering content on a small surface screen was nothing more than shifting the desktop and communication from the workplace, the advent

Action Packed Ski Video Shot Entirely by an Apple iPhone

A 25-year-old Nicolas Vuignier shared an action packed ski video, shot entirely on an Apple iPhone. While the sole “shot by iPhone” idea is not really that new, the quality and making of this video really redefines what is possible. While some will argue this was made by something a bit more professional (high-quality RED anyone?) than a run-off-the-mill production smartphone like this, it seems the video was really shot by a device like, just using the custom lenses. Nicolas Vuignier has shared an incredible video on YouTube showcasing himself skiing down a mountain in Sweden. And we can only be amazed by how well it

2016 According to Apple: What Lies Ahead?

In addition to a significant focus on updating and refreshing their existing products, last year also saw Apple launch some long-anticipated new releases, namely the iPad Pro for ‘prosumer tablets’, Watch for the wearable industry and the carrier unlocked (so-called SIM-free) iPhone 6S, where you can use any carrier you want. Whilst many might reflect on 2015 as a year of upgrades, hardware and add-ons for the tech giant, 2016 looks set to hold plenty of promise in terms of completely new products and branching out into unexplored fields. Here is a look ahead at what Apple may have in store for us over the coming

Lenovo Sells 10,000 VR Sets in Less than a Second

While the VR hypetrain is gearing up, the question is will the sales follow, or will VR and latter, AR land flat, just like the 3D hype-train ended? The answer to that question is simple – market interest and actual sales results. Pre-orders for Oculus Rift showed that the demand is there, and if you want to order the Rift CV1 today, you won’t get your hands on one before July 2016. While Facebook / Oculus are not disclosing how much units they have in production, it’s hard to gauge interest. Lenovo came out with a different concept, which is tested and proven worldwide, but the

Lumia 950 and 950 XL Owners Get a Free Year of Office 365

This isn’t the first time Microsoft is giving away free stuff to owners of its Windows 10 Mobile smartphones. A few weeks ago, everyone who pre-ordered Lumia 950 XL smartphone received a free Display Dock. Now, the software/hardware giant from Redmond is giving away something more interesting, a free year of Office 365 subscription to owners of Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. A rather nice way to say thanks for choosing the company’s flagship smartphones, isn’t it? In case you were wondering, the Office 365 Personal subscription is now reduced to $59.99, making this a rather interesting offer. Customers that are eligible for the subscription are

Microsoft to Offer Data Plans, Mobile Service

MVNO or Mobile Virtual Network Operator is becoming a thing of fashion among IT giants, and could start to slowly squeeze conventional telecom operators, especially among the early adopters. Among the traditional IT names, IBM was the first that ran its own MVNO that was accessible to non-employees (back in 1990s, you could subscribe to IBM’s modem service and use it globally), but that was not widely adopted until Amazon launched its Kindle tablet, which used Qualcomm’s MVNO, and later replaced it with an in-house, SIM-free architecture for Kindle devices more known as the Whispernet. As Google seeked a path to grow, the company decided to become a fully fledged

Apple, Are You Serious?

Maybe you’ve heard; Apple has a bright idea to change the 3.5mm jack for the headphones on their upcoming devices. While the reason for this may only be known to their executives and some genius in the marketing department, it is one of the most retarded decisions a corporate giant can make. No, I don’t believe going digital or doing anything that “improves sound quality” for their devices has any real-world yield on items like these. No, there is no real need to remove the tried and tested, albeit old way of connecting your headphones. There is however the question of corporate ethics, morality and

Microsoft CMO Confirms Engineering Effort On Surface Phone

The title stands – if we use the term “confirms” rather loosely. No, Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela didn’t exactly blatantly reveal that the tech giant is working on a Surface Phone. No! He did however, release some rather interesting info on the potentially upcoming new device. This would be a device that would tie in all the software, hardware and design aspects that come with the current Windows 10 and ensure a full saturation of the entire specter in the selected IT market area. In a recent episode of Twit, Mary Jo Foley pushed Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela on the prospect

Apple launches official iPhone 6s Smart Battery Case

As an avid Apple iPhone user, I welcome this innovative product with great zeal. The Apple Smart Battery Case is just what you think it is. It’s a lightweight solution that connects to your iPhone, allowing you a prolonged battery life. While some other companies have made their own accessories in similar fashion, this is officially released by the Cuppertino giant and it should definitely work better. For example, it plugs in to iOS of your Apple smartphone giving you the battery charge information. A small convenience compared to third-party cases, but one after all. The device promises to add an additional usage life. According to

Google Plus Just Took A More Fashionable Turn

Google just released information about the pending Google Plus update. The popular, but not the highest popular social media network out there, just got better. The reasons are several: there is a new design, a completely revamped way of how you use Google Plus and quite an interesting selection of features coming up. For many, Google Plus has been and is an unwanted child of the social media world – but in all true fairness, it does bring a whole lot to the table, that most of us haven’t really utilized or understood well enough. Google has been talking with their users, all in order

VR hits Magical $99 Price with Samsung’s New GearVR

As we all know, the key to adopting a technology for mass market is hitting the ‘sweet price point’, which is typically based around three figures – $99, $199, $999. $999 was the price point when first VHS demolished Betamax, CD replaced vinyl, DVD replaced VHS, and so on. $199 was the price point that Apple hit with the iPhone and we all know what happened afterwards. $99 however, is a price point where a product becomes a commodity, whatever it is. After launching its first generation GearVR Innovator Edition for $199, Samsung teamed up with Facebook and Oculus to prepare a product which could

Apple’s new iPhone 6s ad features NBA star Steph Curry

Unlike some past product campaigns, Apple went with an A-List of celebrities to promote their newest iPhone 6S. The addition of well-known public figures like Jamie Foxx, Selena Gomez and Bill Hader helps with the product’s relevancy. This newest advert shows NBA star Stephen Curry, fresh off a championship campaign, doing some interesting bits and tricks with an Apple iPhone. The short video has the Golden State’s favorite player hitting a half court shot, confidently turning his back against the basket as the ball heads in the net and walking towards the camera with swag pouring from every step he takes.
