What to Expect From Kaveri: A Detailed Predictive Analysis

Editors note:This article was originally published by Juan Ramón González Álvarez at http://juanrga.com/en/AMD-kaveri-benchmark.html It represents a very well-informed estimate of the performance of future APUs from AMD based off the Kaveri core. These estimates are based off the bits of information AMD disclosed both about Kaveri itself and the Steamroller architecture. Furthermore it includes some assumptions that are sensible but may not equate to the actual specifications. As any performance estimate, they could be off substantially because we are dealing with incomplete information. For this reason you should take the benchmark numbers with a grain of salt. However we believe the point of view presented

Intel Looking for Partners to Launch Intel Media, or To Sell Division

As some of you may have heard over the course of many months, Intel has been trying to launch their own IPTV service that utilizes their own hardware. This service was originally supposed to launch around the March timeframe, but as we all know, that time has long come and gone. Some of the biggest snags for this service have been the networks that control the various channels that subscribers would want to watch. Originally, this was billed as an ala carte service, but it quickly became clear that the networks would not let that happen. After all, who would be forced to subscribe to

As we near closer and closer to the launch of AMD’s own Hawaii GPU in Oahu, Hawaii a certain site (UDTeam) has obtained or possibly even generated their own benchmarks using the GPU. While we do not know the exact version of the drivers that they used for this GPU, it would be wise to take any results you see here with a grain of salt until we’ve tested this card ourselves with official drivers from AMD. Nvidia is Showing Secret New Hardware to Developers

We were first tipped off by something coming from Nvidia by a tweet by @MarkRein one of the co-founders of Epic Games, the maker of Unreal Engine and the Gears of War series of games as well as Unreal Tournament. His tweet, below indicates that Nvidia has something coming that has impressed him and that will impress gamers as well. Obviously, he kept his tweet vague. After this tweet, we obviously went to Nvidia and asked them what exactly he could be talking about. Obviously, with Nvidia never commenting on future products we didn’t get much. However, we did get confirmation that it is hardware.

Nvidia Announces Tegra Note 7 to Compete with Nexus 7

Nvidia today announced that they would be launching a new Tegra 4 based product, the Tegra Note 7. This device appears to slot perfectly into what could have been the next Nexus 7. Everything about the Tegra Note screams that it was destined to be the next Nexus 7 device, but something just didn’t click and Google ended up going with Qualcomm. We reported quite a while ago that this switch would eventually occur, but it seems like Nvidia never gave up and continued towards the development of a $199 tablet. In fact, the Tegra Note is actually cheaper than the new Nexus 7, coming

FCC Photos and Info: Nexus 5 is an LG G2 Variant

Nexus 5 is coming ? and for the first time it is revealed to the bone in its visit to the FCC. The device first time appeared in the Android KitKat video, but Google quickly turned video private on YouTube, disabling access. Fortunately, plenty of screenshots were left to compare it with the FCC filing. Mountain View company recently tuned the Nexus 4 pricing down, presumably to get rid of the stock and prepare for the successor. The Federal Communications Commission filing shows that the new device is likely an LG G2 variant, given that the Nexus 4 was a variant of the LG Optimus

First Windows Phone Phablet Appears in a Press Photo

Just as the earlier leaks have suggested, the Nokia ?Bandit? seems to carry the name Lumia 1520 in its final form, as Twitter handle @evleaks posted the first press image of how the phablet looks like. Judging by the third column of Live Tiles on the screen, the unit is most definitely running the next version of Windows Phone (GDR3) which, among other things, brings the support for 1080p screens, new SoCs from Qualcomm, etc. Overall design of the unit seems to be following the lines of some earlier Lumia models, and it remains to be seen how that shape actually holds up in what

As we had reported earlier, Renesas was having a hard time getting their mobile division to turn a profit and the parent company had decided that since they couldn’t sell the division they would simply just shut it down and hold onto the IP.
