Xiaomi Launches The Mi4 Premium Smartphone
Xiaomi has finally released their latest flagship smartphone and it comes as no surprise that it will be called the Mi4. The Xiaomi Mi4 is a culmination of the company’s tireless design work and their years of experience in making and some may even say knocking-off smartphones. There’s no doubt that the Xiaomi Mi3 felt like a bizarre mix of a Nokia phone and some other Android phones in terms of design. So, clearly Xiaomi wanted to have a more unique design themselves and to build a quality device. Because of this, they’ve opted to build the Xiaomi Mi4’s body completely out of metal, to give
Nikon Releases The D810, A Mediocre Upgrade
You know, I was worried that Nikon was going to release the Nikon D810 and render my D800 irrelevant or unimportant, but if anything, they’ve done the exact opposite. I know that it isn’t easy trying to improve upon a camera when the sensor you’re working with is near or at the pinnacle of where sensor technology currently sits. However, if you look at what Sony has done with the very same 36.3 Megapixel sensors, it seems like a tale of two worlds. With Sony, you’ve got the a7, a7R and the a7S, all of which have a lot of unique features and encourage you
Will The Amazon Phone Be an AT&T Exclusive?
According to The Wallstreet Journal, the long awaited Amazon phone is likely going to be an AT&T exclusive device. When one looks at this fact, many people may ask why Amazon would even bother to do something like that when nowadays almost all phones launch on all the carriers at the same time. Perhaps AT&T has paid Amazon to do so for a short period of time, however it makes very little sense in terms of Amazon’s global strategy and standard practice of trying to get as many devices in as many hands as possible. Currently, the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX sells with 4G LTE connectivity
OnePlus One Premium Smartphone Launches at $299
The long awaited OnePlus One smartphone has finally made its official debut after many months of slow trickles and leaks. This smartphone was promised to be the smartphone without compromises, and judging by the current specs listed of the OnePlus One, it appears that their statement has held true. The current OnePlus One (still not too hot about that name) will be available in two colors and models. Specifically, the white model selling for $299 with 16GB of storage space (and no memory card slot) and the black version selling for $349 with 64GB of storage space. This price is all the more ridiculous when
GoPro Hero4 Coming This Summer?
As many of you have probably been anticipating, GoPro’s Hero 4 is the much awaited update to the already wildly popular GoPro action camera that so many people already coveyt. The current iteration, the GoPro Hero3+ was what many expected could or should be the GoPro Hero4 solved many of the problems that the GoPro Hero3 had, however, it didn’t really improve the overall resolution or framerate of the camera. According to DGISE the new GoPro Hero4 will be released this summer using the already well-known Ambarella SoC that’s already been capable of 4K video encode and decode for quite some time. However, a lot
PlayStation 4 Sales Surpass 7 Million
Sony’s popular PlayStation 4 console appears to be continuing its amazing momentum in terms of sales as Sony, the console’s maker, has announced that as of yesterday the company has shipped over 7 million units of the popular console. Since the console’s launch in mid november, only 5 months ago, they have managed to average over 1 million console sales per month. This does take into account the 1 million sold on the first day, but even if you take that number out, it puts the PS4 at 6 million units in 5 months, which still means over a million PlayStation 4 consoles sold per
NAB 2014: DJI Launches Phantom 2 Vision Plus with Gimbal and GPS
At NAB 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada, DJI, the maker of the Phantom 2 Vision announced their latest addition to their quadrocopter lineup, the creatively named Phantom 2 Vision Plus. This quadrocopter takes a lot of the features of its predecessor and improves upon them in ways that enables film makers and serious videographers to be able to capture cinema quality footage from the comfort of a quadrocopter. Enabling shots and angles that would normally require a helicopter rental and thousands of dollars to rent one. The current model, the Phantom 2 Vision can be had at Amazon for a discounted $1,179, down from the
ASUS goes for Dell’s jugular with four new FullHD LCD displays
If there was any doubt that two Taiwanese giants are going for Dell and HP, the gloves have come off. After ASUS establishing netbook market with its EEE PC and Acer overtaking HP in notebooks sales in EMEA region, both manufacturers are now complementing their line-ups with attractive add-ons. In case of ASUS, the company announced two 24″ and two 25.5″ displays. All four displays feature resolution of 1920×1200 pixels, 20.000:1 contrast ration, 2ms (gtg) response time, HDMI input and Splendid video engine. What makes this very interesting is the explanation what Splendid video engine actually is. It is obvious that Splendid is a name
The fastest growing FTTH market: US of A
Recently, I received a report from TXP Corporation about the growth of FTTH (Fiber To The Home) market in the North America. According to their report, US now has 3.3 million households that have access to the fastest Internet connection (25, 50 Mbps) in the North America. In the report, it states that the number of installed FTTH households grew by 33% between Q4’07 and Q1’08, with continuous growth between Q1’08 and Q2’08, and same pattern even increasing in Q3. Well, it was about time. I’ve checked these claims with my friends over at Verizon and who’d knew, US is actually moving to become a
Sparkle’s excellent idea: Cheap PCI Express x1 cards
One of more interesting niche markets is the one named “how to fix the computer crippled with integrated graphics?”, and the solutions that are being sold in that area. We saw interesting products coming from Albatron, Sparkle, MSI and others, but it is a rare occasion to see a card in sub-$50 range that offers DX10 support. The company released a series of PCIe x1 cards for those unlucky owners of motherboards without PCI Express x16 slot. Sparkle released no less than eight models based on GeForce 8400GS graphics chip. Sadly, memory controller is limited to 64-bit, but this was Nvidia’s doing. Memory is either
