There’s little doubt that the most advanced augmented reality headgear currently exists solely in the realms of military use. From an eyeball projecting Heads-Up Display for the F-35 Lighting II fighter jet to high-resolution AR visor that doesn’t project blue color because well – blue is the color of the sky – these multi-thousand dollar pieces of equipment could solve the consumer conundrum for both VR and AR. Osterhout Design Group, also known as ODG is one of such military-focused company – just announced its consumer effort code named “Project Horizon”. In order to bring what might be the ultimate AR headset, ODG is teaming up
Motorola Enlarges Moto G, Offers Same Great Value For Money
At an event in New Delhi, Motorola (NYSE: MSI) unveiled the new Moto G for the Indian market, with the device set to go on sale later today on Flipkart. Like the first-generation Moto G, the latest model offers great value for money. As is becoming the case with more and more manufacturers, Motorola has taken the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” motto with the new Moto G. Barring slight visual changes, the new Moto G is virtually identical to its predecessor. The new Moto G features a 5-inch 720p display, the only major change in terms of the hardware. The larger screen
Google Names and Shames in YouTube Video Quality Report
Google has finally released their findings of their ‘Google Video Quality Report‘ that we had talked about earlier this year which is really their YouTube Video Quality Report. Essentially, what Google went around and did was monitor which ISPs were delivering the best quality video service to their customers and how many of them were streaming in High Definition 720P (HD), Standard Definition 480P (SD) and Lower Definition sub-480P (LD). Google’s test takes a look at people’s video usage and how much of the overall video usage is HD video and then determines which ISP is capable of delivering HD video at a consistent level throughout
The fastest growing FTTH market: US of A
Recently, I received a report from TXP Corporation about the growth of FTTH (Fiber To The Home) market in the North America. In the report, it states that the number of installed FTTH households grew by 33% between Q4’07 and Q1’08, with continuous growth between Q1’08 and Q2’08, and same pattern even increasing in Q3. Well, it was about time. I’ve checked these claims with my friends over at Verizon and who’d knew, US is actually moving to become a
Sparkle’s excellent idea: Cheap PCI Express x1 cards
One of more interesting niche markets is the one named “how to fix the computer crippled with integrated graphics?”, and the solutions that are being sold in that area. We saw interesting products coming from Albatron, Sparkle, MSI and others, but it is a rare occasion to see a card in sub-$50 range that offers DX10 support. The company released a series of PCIe x1 cards for those unlucky owners of motherboards without PCI Express x16 slot. Sparkle released no less than eight models based on GeForce 8400GS graphics chip. Sadly, memory controller is limited to 64-bit, but this was Nvidia’s doing. Memory is either
