The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has announced ambitious plans to expand the scope of their VR content production. The broadcaster says that it has now formed a studio dedicated to virtual reality, enabling it to build upon its previous VR content. The BBC’s previous VR efforts have included We Wait, addressing the global refugee crisis; The Turning Forest, a fairy tale based in a magical forest; and Trafficked, a 360-degree documentary regarding human trafficking in Mexico. BBC Moves into VR With Spacewalk Experience
BBC is moving into the Virtual Reality in a big way. British broadcaster is known for its approach to documentaries which put rivals to shame, and VR is looking to be the same – contracting REWIND to develop a Vitual Reality experience. However, this experience wasn’t a clear outsource move. Rather, REWIND worked with BBC Science, BBC Learning and BBC Digital Storytelling in order ot create a 15 minute experience delivered to Steam VR i.e. HTC Vive (and OSVR). REWIND used Unreal Engine 4 to its full extend, and you will need a high-end computer in order to enjoy BBC Space in its fly glory. As the
Broadband Internet Now Available in Cuba
Cuba recently announced that is is making residential broadband internet available in its capital city, Havana. This is a big step for a country notorious for tightly monitoring the internet and limiting access. It wasn’t until 2012 that the internet really took off in Cuba, even though it was introduced in 1996. By making the internet unavailable in homes and cafes, it was nowhere nearly as used as it is in the rest of the world. Now it looks like Cuba’s relationship with the internet is about to change. The internet is considered more of a luxury in Cuba, in comparison to its closest neighbors such as USA – where internet

LiDar Technology Uncovers Ancient City Near Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat and the surrounding area is an ancient 9th century Khmer construct of temples in Cambodia. LiDar is a 20th century invention that is probing secrets hidden deep within the surrounding jungle. LiDar (light detection and ranging), is an optical remote-sensing technique that transmits laser beams toward a target returning extremely accurate geospatial x,y,z measurements. Aerial surveys half a century ago used film cameras and slide rules. We’ve come a long way since then. The technology is discovering that there is more to Angkor Wat than meets the eye. The UNESCO site is an archaeologist’s dream in a country that thrived as part of an empire
