Earth vs. Social: Facebook is the Largest Nation in the World

Facebook often claims they are the largest social network in the world. Even though there are many non-humans on the list (pets), the undeniable fact is that Facebook has more people using its services than there are people living in China. If we would extrapolate the numbers of social media users and real world countries, we would get quite an interesting list. Thus, we decided to compile data from Wikipedia, showing the list of citizens in largest countries in the world, and an August 2015 report from We Are Social, a British-based analyst firm which focuses on tracking trends in the world of social media. The results

Lumia 950 and 950 XL Owners Get a Free Year of Office 365

This isn’t the first time Microsoft is giving away free stuff to owners of its Windows 10 Mobile smartphones. A few weeks ago, everyone who pre-ordered Lumia 950 XL smartphone received a free Display Dock. Now, the software/hardware giant from Redmond is giving away something more interesting, a free year of Office 365 subscription to owners of Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL. A rather nice way to say thanks for choosing the company’s flagship smartphones, isn’t it? In case you were wondering, the Office 365 Personal subscription is now reduced to $59.99, making this a rather interesting offer. Customers that are eligible for the subscription are

Microsoft to Offer Data Plans, Mobile Service

MVNO or Mobile Virtual Network Operator is becoming a thing of fashion among IT giants, and could start to slowly squeeze conventional telecom operators, especially among the early adopters. Among the traditional IT names, IBM was the first that ran its own MVNO that was accessible to non-employees (back in 1990s, you could subscribe to IBM’s modem service and use it globally), but that was not widely adopted until Amazon launched its Kindle tablet, which used Qualcomm’s MVNO, and later replaced it with an in-house, SIM-free architecture for Kindle devices more known as the Whispernet. As Google seeked a path to grow, the company decided to become a fully fledged

Oculus Launches Rift Pre-Orders on CES 2016

The wait is (almost) over. Two years after Facebook acquired the company in an all-cash, $2 billion transaction, the world waited the arrival of Oculus Rift. On the first day of CES (January 6, 2016) at 8AM Pacific, Oculus opened pre-orders for the Rift Virtual Reality headset. Unlike the DK1 and DK2 editions, the consumer version of Rift will not cost $349. Instead, Rift will retail/e-tail for $250 more, i.e. $599, with the price including the Xbox One wireless controller and the hard shell plastic ‘suitcase’ which Oculus used to ship the original Development Kit 1. Naturally, the design and typing will be updated to fit all

Microsoft CMO Confirms Engineering Effort On Surface Phone

The title stands – if we use the term “confirms” rather loosely. No, Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela didn’t exactly blatantly reveal that the tech giant is working on a Surface Phone. No! He did however, release some rather interesting info on the potentially upcoming new device. This would be a device that would tie in all the software, hardware and design aspects that come with the current Windows 10 and ensure a full saturation of the entire specter in the selected IT market area. In a recent episode of Twit, Mary Jo Foley pushed Microsoft’s Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela on the prospect

Samsung Electronics to Announce Galaxy S7 in January 2016

According to the Korean publication ET News, Samsung plans to change the product introduction cadence for their Galaxy S flagship lineup. According to sources in the supply chain, ET News claims the announcement of Samsung Galaxy S7 will come in January 2016, probably during the CES trade show in Las Vegas. The product announcement should follow with a complete turnaround in the company’s smartphone sector, by splitting Samsung’s models into Premium and Sub Premium, followed by Mainstream and Entry Level. If that sounds like a bad idea, you’re not the only one. The idea behind Samsung’s plan is a simple one. They want to attract more customers and diversify their lineup, but is
