Want your kids to be successful millionaires when they grow up? There’s a cool Kickstarter project called Cubetto that promises to teach coding to boys and girls ages three and up. They create their first program by simply using a colorful set of blocks, meaning kids won’t need the ability to read or speak a specific language. It’s a hands-on experience that, according to the project, combines Montessori learning principles with computer programming concepts. The Cubetto Playset includes Cubetto, a board, sixteen blocks (four green ‘Forward’, four red ‘Right’, four yellow ‘Left’, and four blue ‘Function’), a 1x1m world map, and a story book. Cubetto

Unity Technology’s Alex Lian announced during GDC 2016 that the latest public beta of the Unity engine is now available to download. Listed as version 5.4, the updated platform is now available to all developers, even those who are using Unity Personal Edition. The beta promises updated graphics, better performance, a tighter Unity IAP integration, and a “major” upgrade to VR rendering. “We listened to what you had to say about the quality of final releases, so in order to get more feedback on real life use before we push anything to final, we’ve decided to release Unity 5.4 as a beta,” Lian said in
In true reality, the 3D Printers are a great technological advancement, albeit they haven’t invaded our offices as much as we’d want them to. The reason why is simple; their price. Usually a 3D Printer runs around $250,000 for the basic variants that are able to deliver some impressive 3D printed objects, while the more multi-layered stuff can cost even more than that. On the other hand, the solution made by MIT in the form of the MIT’s MultiFab is a machine costing just $7,000 to build. How is that possible? The MIT scientists and engineers have worked to make this as cheap as possible,
Several companies are working hard in the Virtual Reality field, producing some rather tantalizing previews of whats to come in the future. One of the companies making the VR look bright for the future is Iceland’s CCP Games. Their currently under-development EVE Valkyrie is considered a standard-bearer for VR games. Made for Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus, this interesting and appealing space dogfighting game is definitely a sign of things to come as it attracts VR users everywhere. They also have a game called Gunjack, as a similar gaming experience albeit with less impressive graphics, being made for Samsung Gear VR device. In a
The Khronos Group, an open consortium of leading hardware and software companies, today announced significantly expanded scope and momentum for its family of open standard 3D graphics APIs. Vulkan™, the new generation API for high-efficiency access to graphics and compute on modern GPUs, is on track for implementation and specifications later this year. It has received support from Android, SteamOS, Tizen, and multiple Linux distributions, including Ubuntu and Red Hat. The new OpenGL® ES 3.2 specification absorbs AEP (Android Extension Pack) functionality to enhance pervasive graphics capabilities across mobile, consumer, and automotive devices. A set of OpenGL extensions will also expose the very latest capabilities
When Nokia announced it was reorganizing the company and splitting it in four parts, and then planning to spin off two, it was only a question of time before we see the acquisition of the second spin-off. First one (mobile phone division) went to Microsoft, while the final announcement about the sale just arrived. Nokia just sold its Here business unit to a consortium of German carmakers; Audi, BMW, and Mercedes’ parent company Daimler. This makes the three car makers owners of what some call one of the most impressive solutions in the mobile navigation market overall. “High-precision digital maps are a crucial component of the mobility of

I’ve been following NPD Sales charts for ages now, and it was always interesting to see how long can a title hold on them. Blizzard and EA/Maxis are long standing legends – in the past eight years, there haven’t been a weekly or monthly sales chart where at least one title from these companies didn’t occupy spot or two. NPD Group decided to combine their weekly charts into monthly ones, probably for easier tracking – and making annual reports will be much more easier. But getting back on the subject, sales results for North America are quite interesting: Top 5 PC Games for September 2008
