When it was originally introduced, the 8″ SHIELD tablet represented the highest performing tablet on the market, packing Tegra K1 SoC with 192 Kepler cores, world’s first tablet with desktop-like GPU. We were quite impressed with the performance Tegra achieved by using stock Android 5.0 Lollipop operating system, as well as overall built quality. The only negative was that the screen resolution wasn’t the greatest on an 8″ tablet, and it would heat up during gameplay – but not more than for example, Nexus 9 tablet (also powered by the same processor), or Texas Instruments powered Amazon Kindle HDX 8.9″. However, it looks like the tables have turned on

Nvidia Commences Pre-Orders Of LTE-Enabled Shield Tablet
After stating that an LTE-enabled version of the Shield Tablet was in the works, Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is making good on its word by commencing pre-orders for the device. In addition to LTE connectivity, Nvidia is doubling internal storage to 32 GB. The pre-order price of the gaming-focused tablet is at $399 in the US, which is $100 more than what the Wi-Fi only version retails for in the country. Nvidia mentions that the Shield Tablet LTE is fully certified to run on AT&T’s data network, and is incentivising the tablet to AT&T customers by offering a $100 credit to all users activating the tablet on
Nvidia Confirms HTC Nexus 9
While combing through Nvidia’s (NASDAQ: NVDA) legal documents posted on the company’s website, Bright Side of News*’ sources pointed to a very interesting sentence that many may have overlooked or simply never seen. The legal document in question is Nvidia’s own claim with the ITC claiming that Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM) and Samsung (KRX:005935) are infringing upon its GPU technology patents. The document in question, which obviously had to go through Nvidia legal before becoming public is essentially a corporate confirmation of the previous Nexus 9 and HTC (TPE: 2498) rumors. Nvidia’s document specifically states, “the HTC Nexus 9, expected in the third quarter of 2014, is also expected to use the
Nvidia Wants to Bring PC-Like Performance to Mobile With Project Denver
Now that Nvidia’s Tegra K1 has another hardware win, Denver, the faster version of Nvidia’s flagship SoC that was first unveiled to the world during January’s Consumer Electronics Show got an in-depth introduction on Monday at the Hot Chips conference in San Jose. Nvidia’s Tegra K1 strategy will have to versions of the chip ship to manufacturers: a 32-bit version of the chip that has four Cortex A-15 CPUs and a more powerful one that ships with two of Nvidia’s custom Denver CPUs. The Cortex A-15 version of the chip ships in the Shield tablet as well as Xiaomi’s MiPad and the Acer Chromebook 13. The
Nvidia Announces Tegra K1 Shield Tablet for Gaming
Nvidia has been doing a lot of their own consumer products lately, with the original Shield handheld gaming console and the Tegra Note 7 tablet. Each of these devices was actually surprisingly good and they were very good values for the money, especially if you got them at their cheapest ($199 each). Nvidia has learned a lot of lessons from each device and they’ve done a fantastic job of updating both the Shield and the Tegra Note 7. Their updates are so frequent and regular that I almost feel like they’ve got the leg up on almost every other Android manufacturer out there. They are
Nvidia Launches Ultimate Quest to Culminate in Product Launch
Nvidia sent us a link to a contest that they’re running which is a series of puzzles that will eventually lead you to a ‘new release’. By the looks of it, Nvidia is doing some sort of launch next week, July 22nd. This actually lines up with a recently rumored release of an Nvidia Tegra K1 tablet, which is supposed to launch on the 29th according to Videocardz, but originally stated the 22nd (they changed the date since we last saw the rumor). It is rumored to have a full HD display, which is still quite desirable for mobile gaming and a separate game pad to
New 9" Tegra K1 64-bit Nexus 9 Tablet Coming from HTC?
So, everyone was expecting LG to make the next Google Nexus tablet, or maybe ASUS since they’ve also been one of the part Nexus tablet partners. However, you’d be wrong to assume either of those are correct since the next Nexus 9 tablet looks to be coming from HTC and it looks like its going to be a real competitor. The new Nexus 9″ tablet codenamed Volantis (not to be confused with Lady Gaga’s flying dress) was outed by Android Police today with a full image and spec drop of the device. And based upon what we’re seeing, it looks like Nvidia booted Qualcomm out of
Xiaomi Launches 7.9" MiPad Tablet with Nvidia Tegra K1
Xiaomi today announced two products, one of which was the company’s first tablet powered by Nvidia’s Tegra K1 SoC. If you look at the Xiaomi MiPad there’s no denying that it looks a lot like something Apple would release, however they are doing it with their own touch and using Android and their own MIUI interface. Xiaomi is already a name that’s synonymous with good design, good build quality, and a bit of being a copycat. Even so, Xiaomi’s phones and other products have all been pretty well received by consumers and reviewers alike. However, it is still incredibly difficult to get ahold of any

Nvidia's Jetson TK1 is shipping, is it a 'Supercomputer'?
So last week, Nvidia launched a CUDA Vision Challenge that challenges developers to propose applications that might properly utilize the Jetson TK1’s embedded ‘Supercomputer’ capability for unique or novel purposes. Nvidia announced that they would be giving away 50 Jetson TK1 development boards to the top 50 proposals submitted by developers and the winners would be announced on May 20th. And, if you don’t think you’ll win, but still want to get your hands on one, you can buy it for $192. That’s part of Nvidia’s own marketing campaign since the GPU onboard the Jetson TK1 is the Kepler GPU and part of the Tegra K1 SoC
