Google is No More, Meet the Alphabet

‘Corporate restructuring’ is a term reserved typically for downsizing the company, selling or ‘spinning off’ corporate assets etc. However, when it comes to Google, something out of the blue happened – company leaders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin announced the birth of a new company, which will now own Google and all of its subsidiaries, as well as couple other companies. The duo announced the new company, called Alphabet (Alpha-bet meaning ‘the return for investor benchmark’) after the stock market closed. We suspect that the .xyz domain is going to become very popular for ‘follow the leader’ culture in Silicon Valley. As Larry wrote; “We did a lot of things that seemed crazy at

OPINION: What is the Future of Virtual Reality?

When it comes to emerging technologies, which are the ones that stand out in 2015? While there are a number to choose from, it is undoubtedly virtual reality (VR) that is capturing the imaginations of developers, brands and consumers alike. Even Mark Zuckerberg is stating that “VR is the next step for Facebook.” Not only does this have the potential to be lucrative, for example, but it can also change the lives of customers and the world around us forever. Although the technology behind VR has been in development for more than a decade and remains one of the industries worst kept secrets, during the

Google Translate Translates Almost Everything in 27 Languages

Couple of years ago, the world of mobile apps was shocked with the appearance of World Lens app, which detected words on live cameras. Even though the mobile phones at the time had quite limited camera capabilities, what World Lens showed to us was the future of translation. Naturally, revolutionary apps like that do not just disappear as Google proved by acquiring the app maker, Quest Visual. Given that World Lens for Google Glass was one of most impressive things I’ve personally used on Google’s first attempt at Augmented Reality, as you can see on video below: Now, over a year passed since the acquisition of

In a move that should prevent those accidental email sends to the wrong address, like sending your relatives or coworkers indecent proposals because they shared the same name as your ‘party of interest’, Google is bringing a feature that tries to prevent embarrassing moves – the Undo Send. In order to enable this feature, you need to hit “Settings” i.e. the gear in upper right corner of the screen, and then again “Settings” in the drop down menu. Once you enter the “General” part of Gmail Settings, you should see “Undo Send” option, enabled by default. The cancellation period is enabled for 10 seconds, something which we would

YouTube Says: 8K is Future, Launches Video Format Support

In the entertainment industry, general consensus around “4K” is that the file format is what 720p and 1080i were before Full HD appeared. For the industry, adoption of 8K video format will be the key towards ‘glassless 3D’ concept, as demonstrated by Toshiba, Sharp and Panasonic on CES. While last weeks’ Computex Taipei and next week’s E3 in Los Angeles will be dominated by 1080p (Full HD) and 4K (Ultra HD), we had the privilege of working with display manufacturers on next generation of displays. 8K is poised to become your reality, to be followed by 10K, 12K and even 16K. Your windows to digital
