Earlier this week, Google quietly updated the stock camera app in Android KitKat 4.4 compatible devices, steadily rolling out this update to more phone models through the coming weeks. The Camera app feels streamlined overall, with noticeable changes in camera performance, features, and especially UI. This of course stems from Google receiving sub-par feedback for image quality on their “flagship” Nexus devices, and since mid-2013 it’s become their main mission for mobile. LG already packed a decent camera on the Nexus 5, but in its first weeks of release, the final image compression really caused sour response from Android enthusiasts. Snapping shots on other apps like

However, the developer preview (basically accessible to anyone that’s interested) is available today. That includes a whole host of small improvements across the OS as well as the addition of Cortana. Windows Phone Central actually has a quick guide of what you actually need to do in order to get your hands on Windows Phone 8.1. Microsoft's New Strategy – Clean Up Windows, Become Strong 3rd Competitor
If you haven’t been following Microsoft lately, then you’re missing out on what could be one of the most significant changes of strategy I’ve seen in a long time. They have slowly been making baby steps towards reorganizing and reconsidering how they address mobile. I have been following Microsoft’s attitudes towards mobile since Windows Mobile 5.0 and even owned a fair amount of Windows-based devices over the course of that time. However, Microsoft made a lot of mistakes along the way and is finally making major changes to remedy them. And with the smartphone market being a virtual duopoly between Android and iOS it comes
HTC Cheats on Benchmarks, Isn't Even Ashamed of it
We recently got the HTC One M8 from Verizon for review and have been wildly excited to review the device as a follow up to our HTC One M7 review last year. Now, HTC has made a vast amount of improvements with the HTC One M8, many of which have gotten quite a bit of praise from reviewers that went live with their reviews on launch early last week. However, some of them, including CNET and Anandtech, noticed that HTC’s One M8 vastly outperformed phones with almost identical specifications. These oddities eventually resulted in them calling HTC out for their benchmark optimizations, similar to what
Google Starts April Fools Early – Google Maps Pokemon Master Challenge
It looks like Google is starting their April fools jokes a bit early this year with their first one being the Pokemon Challenge, trying to find Google Maps potential hires through a global Pokemon challenge. This is an obvious April Fools joke, but the amount of effort put into it definitely makes it much more interesting and alluring. The idea that someone could get a much sought-after job at Google Maps would be somewhat funny if they actually created a global AR game that challenges people to use Google Maps to ‘catch’ Pokemon to see who is the best Pokemon Master. Here is the video,
