Netflix Goes Global, Available in 120 Countries

Netflix used CES to make an announcement we all expected for too long – the online video streaming juggernaut finally managed to secure global rights for the content showed. Unlike previous (blackmailed) negotiations, Netflix did not cave to Hollywood’s content distribution cartel and made its entire portfolio available to users in 120 countries around the globe. This means that you can watch all the shows and movies Netflix has to offer, meaning users that were stifled and forced to use torrents to get the latest content – finally getting an opportunity to legally watch the content that 91% of bit-torrent users would gladly pay for (according to a survey

Report: Amazon Will Forego Future Phone Development

According to a story on Wall Street Journal, Amazon will forego any further phone development. While not ruled out completely, the development of the next-generation Amazon phone is extended “indefinitely.” Sources of the paper say that a significant volume of Fire Phone engineers have been sacked, which marks the first round of layoffs in history of Lab126, Amazon’s secretive hardware division. The failure of Fire Phone (no longer available for sale) took Amazon in a direction of rethinking their hardware strategy. With the aformentioned device, even heavy subsidizing didn’t help – the phone wouldn’t sell even when the price was dropped from $199 – $0.99 in an effort

Top Gear Three Headed To Amazon Prime For a New Show

So much for the Netflix being a done deal. According to the newly unveiled website on Amazon, hosts of the much famed BBC television series Top Gear will re-appear on a new show exclusively for Amazon Prime. That’s correct, one of the most entertaining show front runners will be back. The exact air date, besides “An Amazon Original TV Series | Coming 2016,” as well as the financial aspect or anything besides them joining the said online video network, are yet to be revealed. What we definitely know that it will not be called Top Gear, as the name is trademarked by BBC and it is impossible that the Beeb would shipped out the brand

Surge is Back, and Back in Stock

SURGE

Just last week Coca Cola (NYSE: KO) announced that it would be bringing back the popular 90’s soda, Surge. This soda pre-dated many of the energy drinks of the early 2000’s and was effectively the defacto “gamer” drink of those that played videogames during the 90’s. Many a child spent their LAN parties and gaming time with friends slurping this outrageously sugary soda and it brings back a lot of nostalgia to many. And thanks to Coca Cola’s Facebook campaign, people were able to bring it back for what appeared to be a short period of time. Because Coca Cola knows their audience, it is currently only making Surge

Amazon Logo

In an announcement for next month’s for IFA Berlin, Samsung [KRX:005930]  has unveiled a slew of 4K UHD streaming video content partners to strengthen its 4K UHD content offerings. As of right now, if you buy a Samsung 4K TV that isn’t one of the curved displays, you won’t get any 4K content at all with your TV. However, if you do buy one of Samsung’s new curved 4K TVs then you get a $300 1TB hard drive filled with 4K content containing five movies. In the announcement, the company announced multiple partners to help expand its 4K content library through streaming capabilities. The services include: Amazon, Netflix, maxdome, Wuaki.tv, and

Sorry Amazon, The FAA Just Banned Drone Deliveries

Amazon Logo

Remember that pre-Cyber Monday 60 Minutes puff piece about Amazon’s drone delivery? Well, Amazon’s most successful marketing ploy ever just hit a huge snag as the FAA has just banned drones from delivering packages. Sure, DHL is also testing such a service, but they’re doing so in Germany where no such laws currently exist to restrict it. The document that the FAA released today asks for comment on their interpretation of the model aircraft regulation law which they believe does not allow such aircraft to participate in commercial businesses as opposed to hobbying. Frankly, the FAA’s interpretation of the model aircraft spec rule clearly indicates

Amazon's Fire Phone, Lots of Fluff?

So, everyone’s been eagerly awaiting Amazon’s Fire Phone for many months, that includes the rumors that they were shopping around for hardware partners as well as possibly launching with AT&T, which we now know as true. There were countless rumors stating that Amazon would build a 3D-capable phone, likely leaked by none other than Amazon. Even though we repeatedly stated that it would likely not be a 3D display but rather a 3D-like effect that you can find with HTC’s One M8 3D parallax effect using the phone’s accelerometer and gyroscope to help the GPU render based on the person’s perspective. The phone is jam

Will The Amazon Phone Be an AT&T Exclusive?

Amazon Phone

According to The Wallstreet Journal, the long awaited Amazon phone is likely going to be an AT&T exclusive device. When one looks at this fact, many people may ask why Amazon would even bother to do something like that when nowadays almost all phones launch on all the carriers at the same time. Perhaps AT&T has paid Amazon to do so for a short period of time, however it makes very little sense in terms of Amazon’s global strategy and standard practice of trying to get as many devices in as many hands as possible. Currently, the Amazon Kindle Fire HDX sells with 4G LTE connectivity
