Virtual reality and virtual reality gaming is not an exception from this craze. While Black Friday is still a few weeks out, many businesses are already announcing VR-centric bundles and Black Friday discounts for those who want to jump into VR gaming while saving a little bit of cash. Facebook to Open AI Lab in Montreal

Facebook announced that in the future, they want to replace clicking buttons and tapping on screens with natural conversations. The idea, according to Mike Schroepfer, Facebook’s chief technology officer, is that users could ask Facebook for an update on a family member, the news or even to suggest a friend they haven’t seen in while they might want to catch up with. “I think of it as a full-time, 24/7 personal assistant that helps me stay connected with all the things I care about in the world. That is beyond the reach of current technology” Schroepfer said. Now, a Montreal-based team will be working to

Samsung Disables Google Daydream VR on Galaxy Phones

While Samsung always had a clear plan that Google and its Android are just some of operating systems the company ships their products with, the company never disabled features that come with Android… until now. When Samsung Galaxy S8 arrives on the market on April 21st, it will probably take the crown of the world’s most powerful Android smartphone on the market… facing a different situation. At the moment, compared to Google’s Daydream, Samsung’s Gear VR is more rounded and polished. However, users that opt for Oculus’s mobile i.e. GearVR platform won’t be able to use Google’s own VR platform, known as Daydream. Just like YouTube platform

Three Interesting VR Games No One is Talking About

With the ongoing rollout of VR headsets over the course of 2016, we’ve begun to see dozens of games either released to the public or demo’d for release in the near future. In some cases, these games are essentially little puzzles or creative experiences designed to test out the fundamentals of VR; in others, they’re full-fledged, action-packed games akin to what we expect on major consoles. And inevitably, many of the more ambitious games have emerged at the forefront of our discussions about VR games. But with so many titles already announced and revealed, there are some very interesting games being overlooked. Here are three

GeForce GTX 1070 and 1080 Shortage Until August?

With the conclusion of E3 2016 trade show, which took place last week in Los Angeles, California – many international guests went on for the hunt for several hot ticketed items – HTC Vive, Oculus Rift and of course, Pascal-based GeForce GTX 1070 and GTX 1080. The ‘retail’ mission was the only option after availability from online e-tailers simply did not transpire. HTC Vive is available in 3 out of five Microsoft stores we’ve checked, while Oculus Rift availability was tied to Intel’s Retail Experience. Best Buy in West Hollywood didn’t had Intel Retail Experience and there was no Rift, but the story changed in

Can Virtually Live Replace Pay Per View Television?

Couple of years ago, we witnessed a trend of “cutting the cord”, i.e. canceling the cable subscription in the United States. Still to this date, cable subscription is the primary way how majority of households receives its TV channels. Their offering got expanded with the advance of expensive PPV (pay-per-view) programs, such as UFC / MMA fight nights and the shift of Formula 1 World Championship from FTA (free-to-air) to the PPV model. The arrival of Virtual Reality headsets is bringing another possibility – unlike TV, which puts you in a passive position – VR can make you ‘a part of the match’, or a ‘part of

Oculus Rift Retail Box is Bigger than we Expected

When Oculus announced the final specification and launch details of Rift VR headset on CES 2016, the company also announced they will be returning to the carrying case in which Oculus shipped the first Development Kit (DK1). At the Game Developers Conference 2016, we visited the Oculus booth and saw the retail packaging live. First and foremost, materials are of premium quality, and you feel you’re getting your 600 USD worth. But no, you’re not getting the DK1’s protective box. The box is actually bigger than the first or second developer kit (DK1, DK2 or Crescent Bay). The reason for that is simple – previous prototypes did not feature the

Cedars-Sinai Hospital Adopts Virtual Reality

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is a world-renowned medical institution which is on the forefront of medical research. Alongside with Mayo Clinic and Betty Ford Center, it is perhaps the most known medical ‘brand’ from the United States. There are many theoretical approaches to patient therapy and aiding the healing process, but only research work on the field can bring results or debunk theories. This is exactly what the medical experts at Cedars-Sinai decided to do by launching a virtual reality project. The Center embedded several Virtual Reality devices in different aspects of patient therapy / treatment, and monitored the results. Medical trials included Samsung GearVR device, as well as Oculus Developer

Facebook Goes AAA with VR Content, Bundles EVE: Valkyrie with Oculus Rift

The success or death of a platform depends on the content that platform provides. While Facebook is now being used by over 1.4 billion people around the globe, the social media platform would not become nowhere as near as popular if there wasn’t for several multi-billion enterprises that were built on the content which used Facebook to spread – FarmVille might be a laugh, but the game was at one point – the most popular ‘multiplayer’ game on face of the planet, and the same story followed by Candy Crush Saga. Last year, Facebook made a two billion dollar bet on the next platform to expand its

VR hits Magical $99 Price with Samsung’s New GearVR

As we all know, the key to adopting a technology for mass market is hitting the ‘sweet price point’, which is typically based around three figures – $99, $199, $999. $999 was the price point when first VHS demolished Betamax, CD replaced vinyl, DVD replaced VHS, and so on. $199 was the price point that Apple hit with the iPhone and we all know what happened afterwards. $99 however, is a price point where a product becomes a commodity, whatever it is. After launching its first generation GearVR Innovator Edition for $199, Samsung teamed up with Facebook and Oculus to prepare a product which could
