Samsung to Manufacture Ultra Violet 7nm Chips in 2017

Even though we continuously hear rumors and statements that the pace of Moore’s Law is slowing down or stopping (last one came from Jen-Hsun Huang, co-founder and CEO Nvidia Corporation), the speed of progress in semiconductor industry isn’t slowing down. 14nm is getting traction not just by high-end chips from Intel, AMD, Nvidia, Apple, Samsung and other large players, but also by smaller companies which are moving to revolutionize the way how we build virtual reality glasses, cars, infotainment systems, TVs and many other. FinFET transistors are moving to replace Planar, resistive memory technologies such as ReRAM plan to succeed NAND Flash and SDRAM etc. Still, there is one major technology barrier we

Samsung First to 10nm, Launches New DDR4 Memory

Samsung Electronics, world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer (according to SIA) just won the race to 10 nanometer (10nm-class) process by launching DDR4 SDRAM memory chips which utilize the new process node. However, this ’10nm-class’ is not exactly precise 10nm, as the distance between the cells / transistors can vary between 10-19nm. If you’re in the semiconductor industry, this will not be surprising as Intel’s famous 22nm process was considered 26-28nm process. The new DDR4 memory chips come in 8Gbit (1GB) capacity, supporting the frequency of up to 3.2 GHz (1.6 GHz in DDR mode). At the same time, power consumption is reduced by 10% when compared to

Samsung’s New Strategy: VR First

Over the past decade, we’ve heard ‘Mobile First’ mentioned by all major CEOs, with companies shifting their focus to ‘Mobile First’, a strategy where development of solutions for mobile devices takes precedence over everything else. Mobile First saw the rise of ‘client lite’ computing, but not in a way IBM and Oracle have hoped, with the major benefactor being Intel – its x86 servers powered almost every cat video you saw on your favorite social network. The dawn of mixed reality will require completely different focus. While delivering content on a small surface screen was nothing more than shifting the desktop and communication from the workplace, the advent
